Tasting notes

Ruby red with garnet reflections. Fine, seductively elegant nose with aromas of red berries, delicate roasted aromas, some forest floor and tobacco. Round and flattering on the palate, with a juicy supporting acidity, finely ground tannins and a good length in the finish.

Details

The almost year-long barrique aging suits this Pinot nero excellently. Distinct floral and fruity notes of currants and strawberries. Refined and elegant on the palate, with silky, soft tannins and a wonderfully long finish.

Recommendation

Always a delight with game or pasta with a creamy mushroom ragout.

Vinification

After careful harvesting in the vineyards of the Castello della Sala near Orvieto, the grapes are brought to the winery. There, after a partial maceration period, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks at around 26° Celsius for around a week. The young wine is transferred to barriques for malolactic fermentation. The wine is then transferred to new, French barriques and aged for ten months. It refines in the bottle for a further eight months before being sold.
